GIVE

"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of [a]necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."

In 2 Corinthians 9:6-15, Paul directs the church to give what they have purposed in their heart. Notice that the Apostle does not tell them how much to give or give them a fixed percentage as a standard. He simply tells them that whatever they have decided to give they should go ahead and give. We are not to allow others to manipulate or intimidate us, so that we give out of guilt or pressure. Reluctance or compulsive giving is not pleasing to the Lord; the amount must be our own decision based on how much we trust God with our lives and our finances. Giving is a matter of the heart, not a matter of law. Today, we should give in the ways and the amounts that accurately reflect our deep abiding love, gratitude and attitude of worship toward Jesus our High Priest (Hebrews 6:20 and 7:1).  Remember, we are no longer under the law, but under grace and the new covenant established on better promises.  Therefore, our standard of living and giving should be above the law not below it.  So, let the law of love guide and direct you in the amount you should give to God for the supporting and spreading of the Gospel.
